Civil engineering is a Professional Engineering discipline that deals with design,
construction, and maintenance of the physical and naturally built environment, including works like roads,
Bridges, Canals, Dams and Buildings. Civil engineering is the second oldest Engineering discipline after
Military Engineering.It is traditionally broken into several sub- disciplines including Architectural,
Environmental, Geotechnical, Structural, and Municipal, Transportation, Construction Management, Surveying,
Water resource and Construction Engineering.
About Civil Engineering
The department has full-fledged laboratories with state of the art equipment and highly qualified faculties to guide students and train them to be fit for survival and competition in a global scenario. In addition to normal teaching schedules, we also arrange Guest lectures, Seminars and Industrial Visit to expose our Students to the current industrial needs, demands and procedures. We encourage our students to undertake rural development and Eco-friendly Programme to indicate in them a sense of ethical values and civic and social responsibilities.
To turnout a competent, disciplined, quality engineers and administrators to ensure a green sustainable socio-economic progress of the country.
The Department is endowed with excellent laboratory facilities consistent with the norms of Anna University. The laboratories are also continuously updated in tune with the changing technological advancements. This enables the students not only to excel in their University exams but also enables them to rise to the expectations of the industries.

SURVEYING LAB equipped with the latest devices such as total stations, theodolites, plane table instruments, dumpy levels and other surveying equipment to instill in the students the basic skills and knowledge of field work in surveying and also the recent up gradations in survey field techniques.
Computer Aided Building Drawing Lab equipped with highly configured computer systems installed with AUTOCAD software to enable the students to draft building drawings in accordance with the development and control rules and standards.
Strength Of Materials LAB equipped with heavy and recent devices such as universal testing machine, torsion testing machine, spring testing machine, Beam deflection test apparatus, Dial gauges, Le Chatelier‟s apparatus, Vicat‟s apparatus, and strain gauge to impart knowledge of the strength of materials and stiffness properties of structural elements to meet the industrial demand in structural engineering.
Hydraulic Engineering Lab equipped with various types of turbines such as Pelton wheel turbine, Francis turbine, Kaplan turbine, submersible pumps and other equipments to verify the principles and gain knowledge in the discipline of Applied Hydraulic Engineering.
Soil Mechanics Lab equipped with university prescribed equipment’s to impart the knowledge of testing the soil to assess its engineering properties and index properties.
Environmental Engineering Lab equipped with Spectrophotometer, Flame Photometer, Gas Chromatography, Atomic absorption spectroscopy (Ni, Zn, Pb), BOD & COD Analyser and other equipment’s to impart the skill to measure the quality parameters of water and sewage.
Concrete & Highway Engineering Lab equipped with recent apparatus used to conduct tests on fresh & hardened concrete, such as Slump cone test, flow table, compaction factor test and Vee bee test to meet the industrial demands in concrete and highway engineering.

INDUSTRIAL VISIT TO PERIYAR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY CENTRE,CHENNAI
Department of Civil Engineering visited “Periyar science and technology centre” on 04/08/2017 with 30 students and three faculty members (Ms.Ishwarya, Mr. moorthy , Mr. Sathish ) went on industrial visit “Birla planetarium” all assembled in the college at 9.30am and left in the college bus and reached the “Birla planetarium” at 11.30am.
"Survey Camp-2017 28-29 June 17 & 31 July 17"
Department of Civil Engineering conducted a 3 days Survey Camp for 3rd year students of Civil Engineering successfully.The camp was held at different places nearby Madhurandhagam Taluk, Kancheepuram District. The camp took place for a period of 3 days in Vedandhangal villages and Madhurandhagam Lake. Students learnt to find the area (nearly 60 acres) of the given place by Triangulation and Trilateration, Rectangulation, Area and REM using Total Station. The camp conducted for the 3rd year Civil Engineering students with (26 students). & accompanied with staff members are Mr L. Sathish., Ms R. Sudha, Assistant Professor., Ms M. Thamizharasi, Assistant Professor., Ms T. Ishwariya, Assistant Professor., and Mr. R. Moorthy, Assistant professor., V Poovarasan, Lab Instructor.
Industrial Visit to Space CAD design centre's Construction site
On receiving the invitation from ' space cad design centre ' to visit their construction site of 'COSH' hospital development of existing building located in Air force road,East Tambaram on 30/6/2017.We are students from 2nd & 3rd year (28+26) along with six faculty members ( Mr.M.Parthiban,Mr.Moorthi,Mr.M.Lalithkumar, Ms.Sudha, Ms.Thamizharasi and Lab instructor Mr.poovarasan).We are assembled at 9.45 am , depart from college premises 9.50 am in college bus.
Farewell Party 2017
The Farewell Party is organized by their juniors on 04.04.2017. For the pass out Batch - 2013-2017, of Civil Department, Final Year. The students organize a Cultural Programme and fill the environment with a spirit of celebration. The management members and faculty motivate the pass out students and also wish them luck with their motivational and inspiring words on this occasion.

Civil Department arranged the Industrial visit to Sathanur Dam for 2nd year Civil Engineering students & Staffs are Mr D. Parthiban, Assistant Professor., Mr R. Moorthy, Assistant Professor., and Ms. R. Sudha, Assistant Professor on 10th MAR 2017. It is located on sathanur Village 30Km from the Thiruvannamalai district. Students visited the Hydro Power Station, Natural Park, Crocodile Farm, Dam Construction.
Industrial Visit to Sattava Construction Pvt Limited
Totally 46 students of III year CIVIL of ACET visited the ‘Sattava engineering construction’ PVT limited at Pallavaram Chennai on 1-03-2017. The students were accompanied by three faculty members from ACET. This company takes over all the projects of ‘METRO WATER PROJECTS’.

International Workshop on “Stuctural Engineering”
An international workshop was conducted by “TOP ENGINEERS PRIVATE LIMITED” on 18.02.2017 at ICSA seminar hall (jivanajyothi), Egmore. On this occasion, Professor Rakeshkumar of IIT was the chief guest and delivered guest lecture. 16 students and one faculty were benifited by this workshop.

Department of Civil Engineering faculties arranged an industrial visit with a batch of 46 Third year students to Jones Foundation Private Limited, which is located in Pallikaranai, Chennai on 9th January 2017.
Engineers Day & Concrete Day
The event started with the inauguration of Engineers Day and Concrete Day in Conference Hall at 9.30a.m on 09.09.2016.
The Chief Guest Dr J. Revathy, Professor BSAU, Dr. P.Gajalakshmi, Professor BSAU,

Industrial Visit to "Cai EXPO 2016"
As a part of application oriented learning, we,Department of Civil Engineering,Adhi College of Engineering and Technology have arranged an industrial visit for 2nd year to “Cai expo 2016” in Chennai trade centre Nadambakkam on4/9/2016.
Students are splitted up into 4 batches and they have given live demonstration on innovative techniques aboutlight weight concrete, weathering tiles, PVC window frames,etc.,
Survey Camp from 30-Aug-2016 to 03-Sep-2016
Department of Civil Engineering conducted a Five days Survey Camp for 3rd year students of Civil Engineering successfully from 30 Aug 2016 to 03 Sep 2016. The camp was held at different places nearby Madhurandhagam Taluk and in Kancheepuram District. The camp took place for a period of 5 days in Vaiyavoor, Karunkuzhi, Vedandhangal Villages and Madhurandhagam Lake. Students learnt to find the area (nearly 50 acres) of the given place by Triangulation, Trilateration, Longitudinal section and Cross section of a proposed roadway and Rectangulation.

Industrial Visit to RMC Plant
As a part of application oriented leaning, we Department of Civil
Engineering, Adhi College of Engineering and Technology have arranged an
industrial visit for 2
year & 3
year students to a “Ready-Mix Concrete plant”
in Kundrathur on 20/8/2016.
Students are splited up into 4 batches and they have given live
demonstration on batching, mixing, testing and transportation of Ready Mix
Concrete. The plant operators also demonstrated about the basic material
testing, hardened concrete testing and sampling.

3D-Printing of Concrete in IIT Madras
As a part of learning & enriching our knowledge in current Industrial development, we two staff & 16 students of Civil department, Adhi College of Engineering and Technology attended a one day International Symposium on “3D- printing of concrete” organized by Indian Concrete Institute in association with IIT Madras on 8th August ,2016.
The programme was conducted in IC&SR Auditorium, IIT Madras,Chennai. The event started at 9.00 a.m. Technical session started at 9.30 a.m and ends at 6.00p.m.Refreshments and lunch were provided by the organizers in the campus itself. Resource persons & pioneering groups from around the globe shared their expertise in the field of 3D printing concrete.

Ø Although the sessions are brainstorming students got exposed to new ideas, interaction with experts will make them push their mind blocks, shedding inhibitions, etc ,.
Ø This kind of symposiums gets them new contacts related to job, research, and higher studies.

The expert talk on Awareness Program “Civil Engineering body Knowledge for the 21st century” was delivered by V. Rajayogan Palanichamy, CP, F. ASCE (President of India-southern region, ASCE) on 23 July 2016 in Seminar Hall. He gave an inspiring talk about American Civil Engineering Associations and Structural Engineering. also, addressed a several topics on this occasion.
International Building Expo 2016 on 10-07-2016
As our students of Civil Engineering Department have gone to industrial visit to Chennai trade center in the heading of "International Building Expo 2016" on 10-07-2016. Around 30 students from 2nd, 3rd & final year has gone for this industrial visit. In this visit the students have got many exposures in building materials like JK cements, Tiles, lifts, crane works, modular kitchen etc. Even the students have got idea about sewage treatment plant and industrial fabrication.
Intra college level workshop on 'Total Station Survey Practical'
Intra college level workshop on 'Total Station Survey Practical' was organized on 18th & 19th April 2016 for the 2nd & 3rd year Civil Engineering students. The keynote speaker is MR. A. SELVAM, M.Tech. He is Guest Lecture of several Engineering Colleges, also a sole proprietor of SSM Engineering & Survey Company. In our two day Workshop Programme students learned the Benefits of Modern Surveying Equipment, Topographical Survey, Construction Survey and REM by using TS, Know the Data downloading into the Total Station.
Civil Engineering Training Institute (CETI), Tambaram
An Industrial visit to Civil Engineering Training Institute (CETI) – Railway Station, Tambaram was organized on 31nd Mar 2016 for the 3rd year Civil Engineering students & Staffs are Mr. N. Ramasami, Professor., Mr D. Parthiban, Assistant Professor., Mr R. Moorthy, Assistant Professor., and Ms. H. Anusuya, Pro Term Lecturer. Civil department accompanied us (46 students).
A Visit to Sathanur Dam
Sathanur dam is one of the major dams constructed across the Pennaiyar River And Thenpennai River in Thandarampet taluk among Chennakesava Hills. . It was constructed in 1958, The reservoir has a capacity of 7,321,000,000 cu ft (207,300,000 m3) with a full level of 119 ft (36 m). An area of 7,185 ha (17,750 acres) of land is benefited by the left bank canal and 100 ha (250 acres) of land is benefited by the right bank canal in Thandrampet and Thiruvannamalai blocks.
Totally 46 students of 2nd year students of civil engineering department and 3 staffs are accompanied for visit on 22 MARCH 2016. It is very useful to the students by getting knowledge about the dam with irrigation structure and a power plant which has been located near the Sathanur dam
Survey Camp Report – Sep'16 2015
The Department of Civil Engineering at ACET organized an extensive survey camp from 15TH SEP to 20TH SEP, 2015 for V semester students in Bayar Village, Uppala - Kerala. A group of 47 students accompanied by TWO Civil Engineering Faculty members undertook the survey program. In the five-day camp, the students were asked to complete the following projects.
As per Anna University the regulation the 5th semester students have to Survey camp for two weeks, students obtain extensive hands-on experience in the use of land surveying instruments and in the essentials of survey practice. Measurements of distances and angles, calculation and correction of errors are introduced. Concepts of higher order surveys and global positioning system are reviewed and illustrated. Thus students learn surveying practically, this gives them confidence to work (with good precision and accuracy) in Industrial fields in the future.
Visit to Chennai Trade Centre - Nandhanam
An Industrial Visit was conducted for the CIVIL department for 57 students of 2nd year and 3rd year with 3 staff members on 12 AUG 2015 to "CONSTRUCTION ARCHITECTURE AND INTERIOR" at Chennai. Construction Architure & Interior Chennai is a 3 day event being held from 7th August to the 9th August 2014 at the Chennai Trade Centre in Chennai, India. This event showcases products like various products and services as well as equipments related to construction, architectural firms and Interior design houses, latest designs and technologies and more etc. in the Building Construction, Architecture & Designing industries.
It was very useful for students to find innovative way for interior works in civil construction field

An Industrial visit to Structural Engineering Research Centre (SERC), Chennai was organized on 23.01.2015 for the 3rd year Civil Engineering students. One of the important structural engineering laboratories for Research scholar under the Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR), India.
